About WABECO

Maschinenmanufaktur Walter Blombach GmbH (WABECO for short) has made a name for itself as a maschine manufacturer in cooperation with wellknown domestic and foreign companies. The family business, which started production in 1885 as a filecutter, has always expanded its production program. The range was quickly expanded to include electric filecutting machines and forging hammers, and later to include smaller technical items. By the middle of the 20th century, the company had already achieved world renown and shipped file butts, special knives and anvils overseas. The company premises expanded and WABECO developed into an aspiring world market leader.

Challenges

WABECO recognized the possibilities offered by advancing digitization at an early stage and used digital systems from the start to optimize work processes. Just like the machines, internal processes are also constantly being developed and improved. In 2015, the company and our partner tegos GmbH decided to update Microsoft Dynamics NAV to the then current NAV version 2015. In the course of this, further options were also determined with the aim of generating greater added value via the NAV solution.

A suitable solution

First and foremost, there should be a change in the area of document management, where an archive solution was in use up to this point. However, this was no longer supported by the NAV partner in charge, the tegos Group. Therefore a new solution had to be found, which if possible directly in Microsoft Dynamics NAV should be integrated. After evaluation for some solutions, the choice fell on the Document Central extension from Simova GmbH. Document Central prevailed thanks to its excellent features: The direct NAV integration, in which the required reports directly behind the correct processes, such as orders or above all, the ability to store articles was crucial here. By filing the relevant documents directly behind the individual customer processes, search times were minimized and access to documents was significantly accelerated. The business processes have become more transparent and clearer for everyone involved. Simova‘s DMS solution was also able to score with the use of barcodes for the automatic assignment of documents to related documents, processes or articles: with the previous archive solution, external documents, such as e-mails, could be stored in the DMS using barcodes, but these documents had to be manually printed out, provided with a barcode by hand and scanned again.

An positive conclusion

With the new DMS solution by Simova and the integrated d.capture batch from our technology partner d.velop AG was now able to automatically return documents with the correct metadata to the process or the master data. In addition to time savings, this also led to a significant reduction in printing costs.
